Downing Street Director of Communications under Theresa May

Robbie took up the role of No.10 Director of Communications just after the 2017 snap election that cost Theresa May’s conservative Government its majority. He stayed until the bitter end, when May lost her Premiership in July 2019. A hard line Brexiteer, he came to the top job from a long career in journalism, he is a former editor of the BBC’s Sunday Politics and Daily Politics programmes and deputy editor of Newsnight. Later, as head of BBC Westminster, he was in overall charge of all of the BBC’s political output.
